Three More Qatari Heritage Sites Make ICESCO List

Qatar just scored another cultural win.

Qatar Museums announced that three more heritage sites have been officially added to the Heritage List of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

The newly recognised sites are:

  • The village of Al Mafjar

  • Ain Mohammed Village Site

  • Al-Murwab Archaeological Site

With these additions, Qatar now has 10 sites inscribed on ICESCO’s Heritage List.

What This Means for Qatar

The new listings highlight Qatar’s continued push to preserve and promote its cultural history — not just locally, but across the Islamic world.

According to officials, the recognition reflects the country’s long-term strategy to protect important archaeological and historical locations, while sharing their stories with regional and global audiences.

The Growing Heritage List

Before this, seven Qatari sites had already made the list, including:

  • Al Zubarah Fort

  • Al Jassasiya Rock Carvings

  • National Museum of Qatar (Old Palace)

  • Barzan Towers

The latest additions further strengthen Qatar’s presence on the cultural heritage map.

Behind the Scenes

Specialised teams from Qatar Museums handled the nomination process, including detailed documentation and coordination to meet ICESCO’s criteria.

Officials said the focus remains on archaeological research, conservation, and sustainable site management to make sure these places are protected for future generations.

In short, Qatar isn’t just building the future — it’s making sure its past stays just as visible.
