Unveiling FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022’s Official Poster at HIA

On Wednesday, June 15, Hamad International Airport hosted a ceremony to announce the official poster for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which was designed by Qatari artist Buthaina Al Muftah and reflects the country's culture and heritage, and the Qataris' passion for the most popular game in the world.

The main poster of the tournament highlights the celebration of football and its widespread popularity in Qatar, the Arabian Gulf, and throughout the Arab world, by depicting two components of the traditional headdress for men in Qatar and the region, the Ghutra and the Egal, which being waved in the air.

During the celebration, Khaled Ali Al-Mawlawi, Deputy Director-General for Marketing, Communication, and Tournament Experience at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, stressed that the World Cup posters symbolize the people of Qatar’s passion for football, and enhance the enthusiastic atmosphere in the country prior to hosting the first edition of the tournament in the Gulf region and the Arab world.

Al-Mawlawi explained that the features of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 reflect the components of the traditional head covering in Qatar and the region, including the design of the Al Thumama World Cup Stadium, the tournament logo, the official mascot “Laib” and now the official poster, and he  said in the same context: “We are overwhelmed with feelings of pride and pride in the strong presence The symbols of our culture and our rich heritage in all aspects related to the tournament."

For his part, Jean-Francois Pathy, Marketing Director of FIFA, said in a similar statement that the official poster for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is a wonderful reflection of the artistic scene in the country, as well as the culture and popularity of football in Qatar, And he said: "We are proud to present this special series of posters that depict the passion for the sport of football, and through which the global audience learns about the talented Qatari artist who created these distinctive works of art."

For the first time in the history of the World Cup, this edition of the tournament will witness the creation of a set of posters that will enhance the atmosphere of enthusiasm and excitement among fans towards the upcoming tournament, which will be held from November 21 to December 18.

It is worth noting that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 poster, which included the word "Come on", was designed by Qatari artist Buthaina Al-Muftah, who explained that she was inspired by the cheers of fans in different stadiums and by the voices of encouragement urging support.

It is worth mentioning that Buthaina Al-Moftah is a Qatari artist who holds a Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University College of Art in Qatar.

After graduating, Al-Muftah directed her artistic practices to print, typography, and documentation, and the primary inspiration behind her artistic production is Qatar's cultural heritage as it borrows elements from Qatar's oral history and folklore and re-adapts them to reflect its relationship to the past of its land.
