Qatar Elected for Presidency of WHO's Executive Board for a Year

The World Health Organization's (WHO) Executive Board elected Qatar as President of the Board for one year. 

The decision was announced during the board's 153rd session on May 31st. The election is the board's acknowledgement of Qatar's role in health affairs at the international level and its contributions to WHO's missions. 

The main function of the board is to execute the World Health Assembly's decisions and policies. The Board consists of 34 members and they meet twice a year. 

Qatar participated in the assembly meetings, which were conducted in Geneva, Switzerland from May 21st until May 30th. 

At the assembly meetings, the Qatari delegation led by the Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Muhammad al-Kuwari was elected to membership of WHO's Executive Board as representative of the Eastern Mediterranean Region for three years.

The 153rd session of WHO's Executive Board convened on May 31st and will run for two days in Geneva. The meetings will be chaired by Dr. al-Kuwari and they will address various important topics including the outcomes of the 76th World Health Assembly and the efficient running of the WHO.
