Qatar Declares Mourning and Work Suspension Period

The Qatari Amiri Diwan has announced a four-day public mourning period across the State of Qatar following the passing of the late Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. The mourning period begins today, Sunday, July 12, 2026.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), official work will be suspended for several days. Here are the details for the public holiday and mourning arrangements:

Work Suspension: All ministries, government agencies, and public institutions will close starting Monday, July 13, 2026.
Resuming Work: Government employees will return to work on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
National Flags: Flags will fly at half-mast across the country during the four-day mourning period.

Funeral and Burial Details

The Amiri Diwan announced the schedule for the funeral prayers and burial:

Funeral Prayers: To be held today, Sunday, July 12, 2026, after the Maghrib prayer at the Imam Mohammad ibn Abdulwahab Mosque in Doha.
Burial: The late Father Amir will be laid to rest at the Lusail Cemetery.

Condolence Timings at Al-Lusail Palace

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will receive condolences from heads of state, ruling family members, dignitaries, and citizens at Al-Lusail Palace on the following days:

Dates: Monday, July 13, Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Morning Hours: From 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
Evening Hours: From after the Asr prayer until the Isha prayer.
