HH The Amir Sword Festival Presents Highest Prize Money in History

Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) has announced a significant increase in the total prize money for HH The Amir Sword Festival, to be held over three days in February 2023 at Al Rayyan Racecourse.

The total prize money more than doubled and totaled nearly $10,000,000, the highest in the history of the festival.

The Mega Festival begins on February 16th, 2023 with Sand Championship Day, the 32nd Race Meeting in the current season’s calendar. The meeting features eight races and each has a $100,000 prize money. The following day, the Al Zubara Trophy Day features a nine-race ticket with $100,000 in prize money for the first seven races and $200,000 for each of the last two races of the day.
 

On the third day and finale of the Festival, the most prestigious and valuable races will take place, for the first time in QREC history with total prize money exceeding $8,000,000. There will be great races on the day including three with prize money of $500,000 each and four with prize money of $400,000 each.

A huge increase in prize money will be associated with the match of the day, HH The Amir Sword (Gr1 PA) and the penultimate race of the meeting, HH The Amir Trophy (Gr1 QA), as both receive $2,500,000. respectively.

His Excellency Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, Chairman of QREC, said: "The increase in the value of prizes at the most valuable horse festivals will surely open a new era in the history of this event, which is expected to be rich in competitions among horse owners. , trainers and jockeys who have already expressed their great satisfaction with this development."

His Excellency added "In fact, this increase will help develop horse racing and motivate owners to have the best horses and get that kind of prize money. Of course, this will lead to an increase in the level of racing, which corresponds to the enormous support from the authorities, who spare no effort for this and create all the conditions for success at home and abroad."

Bader Mohammed Al Darwish, Acting CEO of QREC, stated that this unprecedented increase was greatly appreciated by owners and trainers. He said: "The responsibility of those attending the HH The Amir Sword Festival has now grown as we expect top-class racing in line with the close attention from the authorities. The three days of the festival promise to showcase world-class racing, which will be the biggest challenge for all participants to win the coveted titles as well as the cash prizes on offer."
