Amir Cup Final Heads to Khalifa Stadium This May

The countdown is on! The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has officially locked in May 24 as the date for the 53rd Amir Cup final, with the showdown set to take place at the legendary Khalifa International Stadium.

Announced by QFA’s Head of Competitions Ali Hamoud Al Nuaimi during the Round of 16 draw, the news has football fans across the country buzzing. And it’s not just Khalifa Stadium getting the love — Al Thumama Stadium, Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, and Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium will also host knockout round matches this season.

This year’s tournament is stacked, featuring 12 squads from the Qatar Stars League along with four teams from the Second Division. The format? Pure adrenaline — single-match knockouts, with extra time and penalty shootouts ready to decide the drama if needed.

The action kicks off on May 4 with Al Shahania taking on Al Mesaimeer and Al Ahli facing Qatar SC. The next day, it's Al Duhail vs Al Sailiya and Al Rayyan vs Lusail. Al Gharafa battles Al Khor and Al Sadd meets Al Kharaitiyat on May 6, and the Round of 16 wraps up with Al Wakrah vs Umm Salal and Al Shamal vs Al Arabi on May 7.

Team managers are already hyped for the title race. Mohammed Gholam, Al Sadd’s Sporting Director, said they’re aiming to seal a historic double this season:

“We want to keep winning titles and compete strongly to achieve the double this season. Our focus will be on our first match against Al Kharaitiyat. We’ll begin preparations for the tournament’s 53rd edition with great hope after winning the league title.”

Meanwhile, Duhail’s coach Christophe Galtier is keeping an eye on the competition but staying optimistic:

“Al Sailiya will be difficult opponents in the round of 16. They’ve done well in the Second Division and earned promotion to the First Division. I hope Al Duhail can lift their Amir Cup fifth title. This is important to make up for our disappointment in the League.”

Al Ahli’s assistant coach Khaled Taj is also ready to fight for a deep tournament run:

“We’re committed to delivering the expected performance in this prestigious tournament and advancing to the final stages. Our chances against Qatar SC are equal, considering both teams’ positions in the Qatar Stars League this season. It’ll be a strong match, as each team knows the other well.”

With top clubs, knockout drama, and a final at one of Qatar’s most iconic stadiums, the 53rd Amir Cup is shaping up to be nothing short of legendary.
