Lusail Stadium hosts Super Lusail Cup in September

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, the entity responsible for implementing infrastructure projects to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, announced that Lusail Stadium, the largest of the eight tournament stadiums, with a capacity of more than 80,000 fans, will host the Lusail Super Cup match, between the Saudi League champions and the Egyptian League champions, followed by a concert, on 9 September.

The new stadium is located in the modern city of Lusail, 15 km north of the Qatari capital, Doha, where It will host matches in all stages of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, starting with the match between Argentina and Saudi Arabia on November 22, and concluding with the tournament final on December 18, coinciding with Qatar’s celebrations of the National Day.

His Excellency Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, said: “This occasion represents the last leg of our journey towards the start of the tournament on November 21 to December 18, which coincides with our celebration of the National Day of the State.

We are proud of this distinguished sports edifice, which will play an important role during the tournament, as well as leave a legacy for the residents of Lusail City and the State of Qatar in general.”

On his part, Eng. Yasser Al-Jammal, Director General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, said: “Lusail Stadium is a remarkable engineering feat, accomplished thanks to the efforts, dedication, and commitment of all the project teams, as well as the great cooperation of our partners across the country, and thanks to the efforts of everyone we now see this A distinguished sporting edifice that is a source of pride for the country and the entire region, and here I would like to thank everyone who participated in the completion of this wonderful stadium and preparing it to host the most important sporting event in the world.”

For his part, Nasser Al Khater, CEO of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, said: “Lusail Stadium will represent a great platform for the most important match in the world of football at the end of this year, when it will host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ final on December 18, which is the final building block in our preparations for the big event, as the fans are waiting for a wonderful and unforgettable experience when they arrive in Qatar to attend the first edition of the World Cup in the Arab world and the Middle East, were holding this match on the grounds of Lusail Stadium is an ideal opportunity to test its readiness and improve the operational plans we have prepared for the upcoming event.”

Details of the match tickets will be announced later at Lusail Stadium, whose design was inspired by the interplay of light and shadow that characterizes the traditional Arab lighthouse or lantern, and its facade reflects the intricate inscriptions carried by food bowls, utensils, and other pieces of art that have spread throughout the region.
