Iran secured a spot in the Asian Cup round of 16 with a 1-0 victory over Hong Kong in a Group C match at Khalifa International Stadium.

Mehdi Ghayedi scored the decisive goal in the 24th minute, ensuring Iran's six points and top position in the group. The win places them two points ahead of the United Arab Emirates, securing at least a top-two finish.

Despite numerous opportunities, Iran couldn't extend their lead as Hong Kong defended resolutely. Iranian coach Amir Ghalenoei expressed disappointment with his team's inability to convert chances.

Hong Kong, returning to the Asian Cup after 56 years, is currently at the bottom of the group with no points.
