Qatar Ranked World’s Third Most Expensive Health Insurance Claims

The Qatar cabinet approved a proposal earlier this month to establish insurance benefit packages and rates for visitors and tourists.

According to a recent analysis by William Russell, Qatar ranks third in the world for the highest prices for health insurance claims. Qatar's average claim value hit $2,900, according to the study, which was released on June 8. It was followed by Taiwan, which came in second at $3,878, and Denmark, which came in first at $7,328.

The high expense, according to the health organization, may not be indicative of the broad variety of medical crises that might occur while traveling.

General practitioner (GP) and specialist consultations are the most popular claim categories in Qatar. Meanwhile, osteoarthrosis, a joint ailment that primarily affects the elderly, is the most usually reported illness.

Qatar's cabinet has approved a proposal for visitor and tourist health insurance packages. In terms of claim value, the disorder is also the most expensive.

Qatar's healthcare legislation

The Qatar cabinet approved a proposal from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) earlier this month to adopt insurance benefit packages and premiums for visitors and tourists.

The Council of Ministers approved Draft Resolution No. 22 of 2021 in May, requiring companies to provide private health insurance to foreigners in order for them to receive medical care. It also states that Qatari nationals have access to government-run healthcare facilities.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, the legislation requires residents and visitors to have health insurance from a licensed insurance carrier.

From the date of arrival in Qatar or the date of a worker's sponsorship transfer to a new company, the insurance must be provided to the employee.

Employers are also required to notify the insurance carrier when an employee's contract is terminated. If an employer or recruiter fails to transfer the employee's sponsorship to a new company after the contract has finished, the insurance coverage may be extended until the policy or the legally permitted period of residency has expired.

The Ministry of Public Health designated health centers for Qatari patients in order to give better health services to citizens. Leabaib Health Center, Muaither Health Center, Al Thumama Health Center, and South Al Wakrah Health Center are among these facilities.

On Numbeo's 2022 Health Care Index, Qatar's healthcare ranks 18th out of 95 nations, and it tops the list of Arab states.

If an employer or recruiter fails to transfer the employee's sponsorship to a new company after the contract has finished, the insurance coverage may be extended until the policy or the legally permitted period of residency has expired.

In the Quality-of-Life Index, Qatar is ranked 27th out of 87 countries, and is ranked second in the Middle East behind the United Arab Emirates.
