Qatari Beach Volleyball Stars Break Into World Top 5 Ranking

Qatar's dynamic beach volleyball duo, Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, just smashed their way into the top five global rankings, according to the latest update by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

Previously ranked seventh, the Olympic bronze medalists now hold the No. 5 spot with 5,720 points — a jump fueled by their standout performance this season and especially their gold medal victory at the Gstaad Elite16 World Championship in Switzerland last Sunday, which added a cool 1,200 points to their tally.

Their consistent drive and elite-level play across 10 tournaments this year have cemented their position among the world’s best — just in time for the final run-up to the World Championship and Paris 2024 Olympics.

While Qatar celebrates this milestone, the world’s No.1 spot still belongs to Norway’s iconic pair Anders Berntsen Mol and Christian Sorum, who hold 8,560 points. Argentina’s Nicolas and Tomas Capogrosso have surged into second with 6,520 points, followed by the Netherlands’ Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot in third with 5,920. Sweden’s David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig slipped to fourth, now just 60 points ahead of the Qataris.

This achievement is more than just a ranking—it’s a statement. Qatar is not only on the map in beach volleyball; it's chasing gold, game after game.
