Qatar Confirms Five-day Eid Break for Public Sector

Qatar has officially announced a five-day public holiday for Eid Al Adha, one of the most important Islamic celebrations of the year. The break will start on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah — the day of Arafah — and run through the 13th day of the Islamic month.

Dhul Hijjah is the final month of the Islamic calendar, and its start depends on the moon sighting. The crescent moon is expected to be looked for on May 27. If spotted, the month will begin on May 28; otherwise, it will start on May 29.

This means Arafah Day — the holiest day in Islam — will fall on either June 5 (Thursday) or June 6 (Friday). Eid Al Adha will be observed the following day, as per tradition.
