AFC Asian Cup: Akram Afif Scores Twice in Qatar's 3-0 Win Over Lebanon

In a spectacular start to their AFC Asian Cup title defense, Qatar showcased their prowess at home by securing a convincing 3-0 victory against Lebanon in a thrilling match held at the Lusail Stadium on Friday, and two of them were scored by Akram Afif.

Despite an initial setback with a disallowed goal from Almoez Ali in the sixth minute, Qatar's performance ignited as they maintained ball possession in the first 20 minutes. Lebanon, however, countered with rapid attacks down the flanks, keeping the defending champions on their toes.

Playmaker extraordinaire Afif emerged as a pivotal force, orchestrating moves and creating scoring opportunities for his teammates. The match witnessed a display of skill and strategy, with Lebanon's Walid Shour missing a notable chance in the 23rd minute.

Afif's header, off a well-placed cross from Yusuf Abdurisag, rattled the crossbar in the 31st minute, intensifying the competition. The deadlock was finally broken in the 45th minute, courtesy of Afif's masterful goal. Assisted by Almoez Ali, Afif seized the opportunity, drilling the ball into the center of the box with precision.

Building on the momentum, Ali extended Qatar's lead with a splendid header in the 56th minute, capitalizing on a precise cross from Mohammed Waad. The two-goal advantage spurred Qatar into more aggressive attacks, although Lebanon's defense held firm.

Despite a few opportunities for Lebanon, their attempts were thwarted by a resilient Qatari defense. To cap off the triumph, Afif sealed the victory in style, scoring his second goal in the sixth minute of added time.

The capacity crowd at Lusail Stadium witnessed a stellar performance from the defending champions, signaling a formidable start to their quest for another AFC Asian Cup title. The dynamic duo of Afif and Ali spearheaded Qatar's victory, leaving fans eager to see the team's continued journey in the tournament.
