In a nail-biting clash at the Al Bayt Stadium, Qatar secured a spot in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup semifinals by defeating Uzbekistan in a 3-2 penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw.

Defending champions Qatar displayed resilience as goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham's crucial saves led to the winning penalty by Pedro Correia.

Despite both teams' efforts, neither could secure a decisive goal in regular or extra time, leading to the thrilling penalty shoot-out. Barsham's saves from Rustamjon Ashurmatov, Zafarmurod Abdirakhmatov, and Jaloliddin Masharipov propelled Qatar to victory.

Qatar will now face Iran in the semifinals, setting the stage for an exhilarating clash. Meanwhile, Iran secured their semifinal berth by overcoming Japan 2-1. Alireza Jahanbakhsh's late penalty sealed the comeback for Iran after trailing in the first half.
