Kevin De Bruyne Awarded "Man of The Match"

Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgium national team playmaker, was surprised and ridiculed by winning the man of the match award in his country's match against Canada.

De Bruyne said, in media statements reported by the English newspaper “The Sun”: “In fact, I don’t understand the secret of my winning the award for best player in the match, and I do not see that I played a good match.”

The Manchester City star added sarcastically: "Maybe they gave me the award because of my name and fame, but the whole team was not good at the collective level, especially in the first half, we did not find solutions and were very bad."

The former Wolfsburg and Chelsea player added, "Canada succeeded thanks to the high pressure to take possession of the ball, while we failed to keep up with them. We are very lucky to have Thibaut Courtois."

It is worth noting that Kevin De Bruyne, who is participating in the World Cup for the second time in his career, has previously represented the Belgium national team in 84 international matches and scored 22 goals, the most beautiful and important of which may be his goal against Brazil in the quarter-finals of the World Cup Russia 2018 when Belgium managed to Eliminate Brazil by defeating it 2-1.

At the club level, De Bruyne began his professional career in the Belgian club Genk, before moving to Chelsea, England, and then to Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg in Germany, before settling in Manchester City, where Kevin reached his highest levels and became one of the elite players in the world.

It is noteworthy that the Belgian national team had achieved, on Wednesday evening, November 23, a difficult 1-0 victory over Canada, at the start of its World Cup campaign.

The Canadian national team almost scored on more than one occasion, and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved several Canadian chances, most notably a penalty kick by Bayern Munich star Alfonso Davies in the first half.

De Bruyne's teammates topped the World Cup Group F standings after the first round with 3 points, two points ahead of Croatia and Morocco, who tied without goals.

Belgium will face Morocco in its second match on Sunday (November 27th) at Al Thumama Stadium

The Red Devils will conclude their group-stage matches against Croatia on December 1 at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.
