Qatar's Mutaz Barshim Receives Another 'Best Athlete of Asia' Award

Qatar's Golden Falcon Mutaz Essa Barshim received the 'Best Athlete of Asia' Award from the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) for the second time. 

The award ceremony was hosted in Bangkok, Thailand and Mutaz's father received the award on his behalf.

The athlete expressed his gratitude in an Instagram post.

Barshim wrote "I'm so honored and proud to have been awarded the title of 'Best Asian Athlete' for the second consecutive year. I want to thank my beloved country, Qatar, my family, my friends, my team, my sponsors, and fans who continually support and believe in me."

Barshim recently won a gold medal at the West Asia Athletics Championship with a jump of 2.20 meters.

The athlete is a World Champion and second-highest jumper of all time with a personal best of 2.43 meters.

Barshim will participate in the World Championships in Budapest in August and in the Asian Games at Hangzhou from Sep. 23 until Oct. 8.
