Ousmane Dembele Wins the 2025 Ballon d'Or

Ousmane Dembele has been awarded the 2025 Ballon d’Or, securing football’s highest individual honour after a stellar season with Paris Saint-Germain.

His performances helped PSG to a historic treble, including their long-awaited Champions League win, impressing voters across Europe. Dembele’s win marks a pinnacle in his career, celebrated in Paris in front of a fervent crowd chanting his name.

Dembele’s season was defined by consistency, resilience and moments of brilliance. Despite battling injury that kept him sidelined for certain fixtures, he delivered in crucial moments—enough to edge out young talent like Lamine Yamal, who finished as the runner-up. Dembele’s leadership on the pitch and his ability to influence nearly every match underlined why he was chosen.

For PSG, the Ballon d’Or represents validation of their ambitions. Winning the treble—domestic league, domestic cup, and the Champions League—was a long-cherished goal, and Dembele’s contribution has now been formally recognised at the highest level. It is not only a personal triumph but a statement of PSG’s dominance in club football this season.

On the women’s side, Aitana Bonmatí continues to make history, winning the women’s Ballon d’Or for the third year in a row. Her success underscores her consistency and importance to Barcelona and the Spanish national side, becoming the first woman to achieve a three-peat in this award.

Other notable recognitions at the 2025 Ballon d’Or include Sarina Wiegman being named best women’s coach following England’s triumph over Spain, and PSG boss Luis Enrique receiving the men’s Johan Cruyff Best Coach award. Goalkeeping honours were shared by Hannah Hampton (women’s) and Gianluigi Donnarumma (men’s).

In the final rankings, Dembele claimed top place among the men, followed by Lamine Yamal in second and PSG teammate Vitinha in third. The women’s ranking saw Bonmatí first, Mariona Caldentey second, and Alessia Russo third.S
