Kahramaa Launches Competition for The Best Innovative Initiative

The Qatari General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA), in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, launched on Monday, October 17, the competition for the "Best Innovative Initiative in the Field of Sustainability in connection with Qatar's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022."

The competition aims to support creative and innovative thinking in the framework of work to achieve sustainability in the country, whether in connection with the organization of the World Cup, or beyond, by giving creators and researchers the opportunity to present their innovations in this field and encouraging them to present innovative ideas.

In a joint press conference held on the occasion, Engineer Bodour Al Meer, Executive Director of Sustainability and Environment at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, confirmed that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament will change the way upcoming tournaments are organized and even various major sporting events in the future and will work to establish a sustainable legacy that contributes to Promote the United Nations sustainable development goals and Qatar National Vision 2030.

Al-Meer said that the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, in cooperation with the International Football Association (FIFA), has developed a sustainability strategy, Which is the first that is planned and developed jointly between FIFA, the host country, as it reviews 22 goals and more than 70 Among the concrete initiatives and programs to implement the strategy and achieve its predetermined objectives, and that is based on the fact that the issue of sustainability has been a major focus of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 from the beginning.

She pointed out that five commitments related to sustainability were identified, including building human competencies, protecting workers' rights, providing a comprehensive experience at the championship level, stimulating economic growth, providing innovative environmental solutions, and establishing a model for good governance and ethical business practices.

stressing that community members are the most important partner in achieving sustainability goals, as their social contributions will ensure the achievement of the ultimate goal, which is that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will have a positive legacy that future generations will benefit from.

For his part, Mr. Muhammad Ali Al-Mohannadi, Director of Public Relations and Communication at Kahramaa, said in a speech on the occasion of the launch of the competition organized by the Foundation for Creativity, Innovation and Scientific Research in the Foundation: “This initiative comes to reflect the great interest that the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation attaches to issues of creativity and innovation and scientific research, especially with regard to sustainability issues, which Kahramaa is committed to achieving its goals and supporting initiatives aimed at promoting them, within the framework of its role as a national institution that continuously strives to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.

It is worth noting that the competition includes three different categories, the first is in the category of short videos that do not exceed sixty seconds, while the applicants in the second category compete on applied scientific research projects, and the third category includes smartphone applications which aim to supporting and improving sustainability.
