The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced the State of Qatar's participation in the World Summit on the Information Society 2022 Forum, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 30 to June 3, as a gold sponsor for the Forum, which is co-organized by the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Commenting on Qatar's participation in the World Summit Competition, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al-Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said that Qatar's keenness to move forward in investing in the field of digital technology and providing innovative and flexible solutions enabled it to advance at the global level.

This was reflected in the State of Qatar's access to many global indicators after it completed many effective local projects that contributed to the realization of a knowledge-based digital economy, promoted the development and development of society, and made it more sustainable.

His Excellency added that the rapid digital growth that the State of Qatar is accompanying in various sectors has had a role in transforming innovation and creativity into practical results, which enhances the competitive value of the country in this field and it reflects positively on the global digital scene.

For her part, Mrs. Mashael Ali Al Hammadi, in charge of the tasks of the Assistant Undersecretary for Information Technology Affairs at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, indicated that the State of Qatar will not hesitate to support any local or global project aimed at promoting the use of innovative technology and applying the digital transformation approach in order to achieve and create a knowledgeable and digital society that would support sustainable development and raise the value of human beings.

It is worth noting that the World Summit on the Information Society Awards competition is the only global platform for identifying and presenting success stories in implementing the 18 action lines approved by the World Summit on the Information Society defined in the Geneva Plan of Action, and for establishing an effective mechanism for evaluating projects and activities that harness the capabilities of information and communication technology to advance development. The 18 winners of the competition will be honored during the UN WSIS Project Awards Ceremony at the WSIS Forum 2022.

In addition, The WSIS Forum 2022 will provide structured opportunities for networking, learning and participation in multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations on the mechanism for implementing WSIS 2022 strategies and objectives. The agenda and program for the Forum will also be developed on the basis of reports received during the open consultation process.
