Typhoon Tino made its presence felt early Tuesday, leaving one person dead and affecting almost 60,000 individuals across the Visayas, according to the latest report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

As of 6 a.m., around 17,124 families or 59,918 people were affected by the storm’s strong winds and heavy rains. Among them, 32,286 individuals are staying in 362 evacuation centers, while another 10,641 people are being assisted outside.

The storm also caused 459 class suspensions nationwide.

In Bohol, a 52-year-old barangay tanod tragically lost his life during tree-cutting operations meant to clear the way for safety.
“Habang nagpuputol sila ng kahoy, nadulas siya at tinamaan ng puno,” said Anthony Damalerio, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO). The victim was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.

Power Outages, No Major Floods

According to Damalerio, fewer than 10 local government units in the province reported power outages, mostly due to fallen posts. Fortunately, no major flooding or landslides were recorded as of Tuesday morning.
“Ang main concern talaga namin ay evacuation — around 45,000 families ang nailikas province-wide,” he added.

Where’s Tino Headed Next?

Typhoon Tino, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gusts reaching 205 kph, was last tracked near Sagay City, Negros Occidental after making landfall in Silago, Southern Leyte around midnight.

The weather bureau expects the typhoon to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by late Wednesday or early Thursday — giving affected areas a much-needed breather.
