Delhi Red Fort Blast: 10 Dead, 24 Others Injured

A powerful explosion ripped through a busy intersection near Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on the evening of Monday, November 10. The blast, which occurred in a slow‑moving car halted at a traffic signal, killed at least eight people and injured many others.

Authorities reported multiple vehicles, including cars and auto‑rickshaws, were set ablaze when the explosion occurred. The owner of the car—registered in Haryana—has been detained, and forensic teams launched an intensive investigation into the cause and origin of the blast.

Officials confirmed that the car was a Hyundai i20, transporting three occupants. The explosion originated at the rear of the vehicle, and no craters were found at the site.

The incident triggered a nationwide security alert, with metro stations, airports and heritage sites placed under heightened vigilance across Delhi and neighbouring states. The alerts extend to Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, and other metro and railway stations across Delhi and NCR.

Officials have not yet ruled out foul play or the use of an explosive device, and all investigative angles remain open.

Shockwaves from the blast were felt in the historic Old Delhi district, disrupting traffic and business activity in the famous Chandni Chowk area.

The attack at a site that holds deep national symbolism—where India’s prime minister addresses the nation each Independence Day—has reopened painful memories of past security breaches and highlighted ongoing vulnerabilities in high‑density, historic zones. Authorities have pledged a full inquiry and launched measures to safeguard public spaces and strengthen surveillance in critical urban corridors.

Chandni Chowk Market will remain closed on Tuesday, November 11.
