Rockstar Games Delays GTA VI Launch to This Date

Sorry, gamers — Grand Theft Auto VI is officially on pause. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the highly anticipated next installment of the legendary franchise won’t be hitting shelves until May 26, 2026, nearly a full year after its original release window of autumn 2025.

In a statement, Rockstar Games explained the delay was necessary to ensure they deliver the kind of experience “that you expect and deserve.” Translation? They're buying time to perfect the chaos we all love.

The announcement sent shockwaves through the gaming world — and Wall Street. Shares of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, plunged nearly 9% in premarket trading, with the delay also shifting anticipated revenues out of the company’s 2026 fiscal year and into 2027.

GTA VI is arguably one of the most hyped titles in video game history. Its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, dropped in 2013 and has sold over 200 million copies, cementing its place among the best-selling games of all time. With expectations sky-high and billions in projected sales, the delay is a major blow to both fans and investors.

Analysts had pegged GTA VI as a major revenue driver for the entire gaming industry, especially after a post-pandemic slump and ongoing economic uncertainty. But now, the extra wait could cool momentum just as new console prices surge due to tariffs and consumer spending tightens.

Still, loyal fans are hanging in. After all, what’s another year when you’ve been waiting over a decade for your next digital crime spree?

So, are we mad about it? Yes. Are we still gonna play it the second it drops? Also yes.
