Qatari Top Officials Lead National Sports Day Celebrations Nationwide

In a display of commitment to promoting health and fitness, Qatar's top officials led the charge in celebrating the 13th Qatar National Sports Day on Tuesday, engaging in various activities to encourage physical well-being among citizens and residents.

His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani set an example by joining kayaking activities at Bin Ghannam Island on the east coast of Qatar. His participation underscored the significance of sports in fostering a healthy lifestyle and emphasized the importance of community engagement in physical activities.

Likewise, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, actively participated in the celebrations. Alongside HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Minister of Social Development and Family, Sheikh Mohammed engaged in activities with children from the Orphan Care Center (Dreama).

The National Sports Day, initiated in 2012, has become a cherished annual event aimed at promoting fitness and well-being. Qatar's dedication to sports is evident as it remains the first country in the region, and one of the first globally, to observe a national holiday dedicated to sports.

The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) played a pivotal role in organizing the celebrations, hosting a variety of activities across the country. The Team Qatar Village, situated in Barahat Msheireb, provided an opportunity for the community to engage in athletics, football, handball, volleyball, basketball, boxing, taekwondo, karate, gymnastics, tennis, and para sports.

The festivities also featured the School Olympic Programme race, where thousands of schoolchildren participated in running races at Lusail boulevard, promoting physical activity among the youth.

This year's National Sports Day coincided with the World Aquatics Championship Doha 2024, attracting notable personalities like World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam and renowned ambassadors such as Yusra Mardini and Ranomi Kromowidjojo, who interacted with fans at Mshiereb.

Across the country, over 250 governmental and non-governmental entities, along with private sector companies, organized events for their staff members, families, and the public. From the Katara Cultural Village to the Aspire Zone and Qatar Foundation, a multitude of activities were held, showcasing Qatar's unwavering commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

As Qatar continues to prioritize sports and well-being, National Sports Day serves as a reminder of the nation's dedication to fostering a healthier, more vibrant community, uniting people of all ages and backgrounds in the spirit of athleticism and camaraderie.
