Over 250K People Enjoyed Qatar's Largest Fireworks Display on New Year's Eve

A record turnout of more than 250,000 people gathered at Lusail Boulevard on Thursday to witness Qatar’s largest fireworks display ever as the nation ushered in the New Year 2026 with a spectacular celebration that lit up the night sky.

The festivities kicked off at 6:00 PM with dazzling laser light shows that paid homage to Lusail City’s modern architectural landscape, followed by live artistic and musical performances that entertained the crowds until midnight.

At the heart of the celebration was an extraordinary pyrotechnic and drone extravaganza. The display featured 4,000 pyrotechnic shots launched by 1,000 “Pyrodrone” units from 46 locations, complemented by 15,300 individual fireworks synchronized with the main show — creating breathtaking visuals across the city’s skyline.

Officials and visitors alike praised the event as a stunning success. Sheikh Hamad bin Talal Al-Thani, CEO of Qatari Diar, described the celebration as a testament to Lusail’s emergence as a premier urban hub capable of hosting world-class events.

“For us, this event highlights Lusail’s standing and capabilities today as an integrated city that offers quality of life, advanced infrastructure, and memorable experiences that meet the community’s aspirations,” Sheikh Hamad said.

Echoing this sentiment, Eng. Abdulaziz Ali Al Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar, emphasized that choosing Lusail as the epicenter of the New Year’s Eve celebrations reflects its growing status as a key tourism destination in Qatar and beyond.

The record-breaking turnout and vibrant atmosphere underscored Lusail City’s rising prominence as a focal point for major national celebrations and high-profile international events, reinforcing Qatar’s appeal as a dynamic destination for world-class entertainment and cultural festivities.

As the crowd dispersed into the early hours of the New Year, the celebrations in Lusail will be remembered as one of the most remarkable public gatherings in Qatar’s recent history, a dazzling start to 2026.
