Qatar Bans Sale of Cars Not Meeting Gulf Standards

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued Circular No. 02 of 2025, making it clear: car showrooms and stores in Qatar are now banned from selling, displaying, or even advertising vehicles that don’t meet Gulf Standard Specifications.

What This Means for Car Dealers

Dealers caught selling or promoting non-compliant cars could face violations and legal action. The move aims to protect consumers from vehicles that don’t match approved quality and safety standards.

The Law Behind the Ban

This ban is backed by Qatar’s Consumer Protection Law No. 8 of 2008. In short:

  • If a car doesn’t match standard specs, the seller must repair, replace, or refund it.

  • Selling or promoting “spoiled” goods—aka cars that fail standards—is prohibited.

  • Sellers must guarantee all goods meet approved specs.
