Gulf States Step Up Intel Sharing, Air Drills After Israeli Strike on Doha

Gulf states are stepping up their defence game after Israel’s deadly strike on Doha. Defence officials meeting in Qatar agreed to share more intelligence, build faster missile warning systems, and run joint air defence drills in the coming months.

What’s in the Plan?

The GCC’s Joint Defence Council said intel sharing will run through the Unified Military Command, while a regional early warning system will make sure any “air situation” is broadcast to all member states. Qatar, which only got word of Monday’s attack after explosions began, pushed hard for the upgrade.

Drills Coming Soon

In the next three months, Gulf troops and command centres will hold joint drills. That’ll be followed by a full air defence exercise, as countries look to plug gaps and stay ready for any new threats.

Strong Condemnation of Israel

The council slammed Israel’s strike on Doha, calling it “dangerous and unacceptable.” The attack, aimed at Hamas leaders discussing a ceasefire proposal, killed five Hamas members—including the son of a senior Gaza chief—and a Qatari security officer. Hamas leaders, however, survived.

Qatar Holds Its Ground

Qatar called the attack “cowardly and treacherous,” but said it won’t back off from its mediator role in Gaza ceasefire talks, alongside Egypt and the US. This was Israel’s second strike on Qatar in three months, following an Iranian attack on the US-operated Al Udeid air base earlier this year.
