Qatar Airways Becomes First to Bring Starlink WiFi to Boeing 787-8

Qatar Airways is pushing in-flight internet to the next level. The airline has become the first in the world to equip the Boeing 787-8 with Starlink WiFi, while also completing the full Starlink rollout across its Airbus A350 fleet in just eight months.

That makes Qatar Airways the clear front-runner when it comes to high-speed connectivity in the sky.

A Record-Breaking WiFi Rollout

By December 2025, Qatar Airways finished installing Starlink on all its A350 aircraft — a move that wrapped up one of the fastest widebody WiFi rollouts in aviation history.

The airline now operates nearly 120 widebody aircraft with Starlink, covering Airbus A350s, Boeing 777s, and Boeing 787 Dreamliners. More than 58% of its widebody fleet now offers ultra-high-speed internet.

What Passengers Get Onboard

Starlink delivers speeds of up to 500 Mbps, letting passengers stream, video call, browse, and work in real time — often faster than home internet.

Since the service launched in October 2024, over 11 million Qatar Airways passengers have already used the free, gate-to-gate WiFi on long-haul and ultra-long-haul flights.

Leading the World in Connected Flights

In 2025, around 21 million airline passengers worldwide used Starlink WiFi. Qatar Airways alone accounted for over 10 million of those users, making up nearly half of all Starlink-connected travelers globally.

The airline also became the first to secure Starlink certification for the Boeing 787-8, reinforcing its lead in next-gen onboard connectivity.

More Routes, Faster Connections

Starlink-equipped flights are now available on most Qatar Airways routes across the Americas and Australia, with growing coverage in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Beyond passengers, the technology is also improving airline operations — from faster crew updates to better coordination during in-flight issues and quicker aircraft turnaround times.
