Hajj 2025 Pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia Set for June 4

Saudi Arabia has officially announced that this year’s Hajj pilgrimage will begin on June 4, following the sighting of the crescent moon which marks the start of the Islamic lunar month.

The announcement came on Tuesday from the country’s supreme court, with the news shared through the Saudi Press Agency. The date of Hajj changes every year based on the lunar calendar, and this year it once again falls during the hot summer season.

At a press conference held a day earlier, Tawfiq al-Rabiah, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, revealed that over a million pilgrims from around the world have already arrived in the Kingdom to perform the pilgrimage.

Last year, 1.8 million Muslims participated in Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, which every able-bodied Muslim is expected to undertake at least once in their lifetime.

In 2024, the pilgrimage saw extreme temperatures reaching 51.8°C, tragically resulting in over 1,300 deaths, according to official sources. Given the intense heat of the region, safety and hydration remain a top concern for both the authorities and the pilgrims.

The Hajj involves four days of spiritual rituals, with the peak taking place on the second day, when worshippers gather for mass prayers at Mount Arafat, believed to be the site of the Prophet Muhammad’s final sermon.

This year, the Mount Arafat gathering will happen on June 5, while Eid al-Adha, the Islamic festival of sacrifice, will fall on June 6, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

As the date approaches, Saudi authorities continue to ramp up preparations to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all visitors.
