FIFA Settles Controversy Over Japan's Goal Against Spain

The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) published a video showing that the ball of the second goal of the Japanese national team did not cross its entire circumference of the line, and therefore the goal is considered correct, as confirmed by the “VAR” technology in the match.

And FIFA said - on its official account on Twitter - that Japan's second goal in its 2-1 victory over Spain was examined by VAR technology to determine whether the ball had gone out of play.

The VAR referees used goal-line camera images to check whether the ball was still partly on the line.

According to FIFA, other cameras may display misleading images, but according to the available evidence, the entire ball was not out of play.
