Qatar Wins Gold Medals at the West Asian Athletics Championships 2023

Two Qatari athletes won gold medals and another one won a silver medal on the first day of the event.

The Qatar Athletics Federation announced on Wednesday that Qatar's athletes Mutaz Barshim and Bashair Obaid won gold medals on the first day of the West Asian Athletics Championships 2023.

Barshim, the current Olympic Champion and World Champion, won a gold medal in the high jump competition with a record of 2.20m. Obaid won a gold medal in the women's triple jump with a record height of 11.62m. Obaid has also competed in the women's 100m event of the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Another athlete from Qatar Mabrouk Saleh won a silver medal in the 10,000m race for men. 

The championship started on Monday, April 26th and will run until Saturday, April 29th at the Qatar Sports Club.
