Qatar’s beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan have been officially recognised as the world’s best men’s beach volleyball duo for 2025 by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
In a statement issued by the FIVB, the Qatari pair were selected as the top team globally in men’s beach volleyball in recognition of their exceptional performances throughout international competitions this year. Younousse's strong presence at the net, combined with Tijan's tactical excellence and defensive strength, helped them become one of the sport’s most dominant duos in 2025.
A Standout Year on the World Stage
The FIVB highlighted that Younousse and Tijan played a decisive role in Qatar’s capture of four gold medals during the 2025 season, securing top honours at Beach Pro Tour events in Xiamen (China), Gstaad (Switzerland), New York (US), and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). These victories underscored their consistency at the highest level of international competition.
Their remarkable run of success not only demonstrated athletic skill but also tactical versatility, positioning the Qatari duo as a benchmark for excellence in men’s beach volleyball worldwide.
Younousse and Tijan have a long track record of achievement. The pair previously brought home a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, marking a historic moment as the first Olympic beach volleyball medal won by an Asian team. Though they narrowly missed the 2024 Paris podium, their performances have consistently placed them among the sport’s elite.
In 2025, their form continued to rise — including climbing to second place in the FIVB world rankings later in the year — affirming their status as perennial contenders on the global stage.
The FIVB’s recognition caps a remarkable year for the duo and highlights Qatar’s growing influence in international beach volleyball. With major competitions on the horizon and the momentum from this historic designation, Younousse and Tijan are expected to remain key figures as they prepare for future World Championships and Olympic qualification cycles.
