Qatar Orders Shops to Close 90 Minutes for Friday Prayers

Qatar just rolled out a fresh directive: starting August 18, shops, malls, and commercial outlets must close for 90 minutes during Friday prayers, beginning from the first call to prayer.

Who’s Exempt

Not everything shuts down though. Pharmacies, hospitals, hotels, gas stations, airports, bakeries, and telecom companies get a pass. Basically, essentials and nonstop services will keep running.

Why It Matters

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry says this move ensures businesses align with public interest while keeping daily life flowing. The rule is now official and applies across the country.
