A heartbreaking selfie is making rounds online after a deadly Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad claimed the lives of a Rajasthan family who were moving to the UK for a fresh start.

Dr. Komi Vyas, a medical professional from Udaipur, had recently resigned from her job at Pacific Hospital to join her husband, Dr. Prateek Joshi, in London. With her were their three children—twin boys Nakul and Pradyut, aged 5, and their 8-year-old daughter, Miraya.

Final photo captures a moment of joy

Just minutes before takeoff, Dr. Joshi took a selfie on board the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The photo showed him and Dr. Vyas smiling across the aisle from their children—Miraya flashing a big grin, and the twins offering small, shy smiles. The image has now become a heartbreaking symbol of a life cut short.

The family had travelled to Ahmedabad from Banswara on Wednesday to board Flight AI171, heading to London. It was supposed to mark the beginning of a new chapter for them.

Family and former colleagues left in shock

According to NDTV, a spokesperson from Pacific Hospital said the news of the crash has left everyone stunned. “They were so happy. Komi had just left her job to begin a new life abroad. It’s devastating,” the spokesperson shared.

Relatives say the couple had been preparing for this move for a long time. “Prateek had been waiting for this day for months,” said his cousin Nayan. “They were finally going to be together again as a family.”

Dr. Komi’s brother, Prabuddha, remembered their strong bond and ten years of marriage. “They were true partners in every sense,” he said.
