Gaza Film "The Voice of Hind Rajab" Gets Oscar Nomination

A powerful film based on the final moments of five-year-old Hind Rajab, who was killed during Israeli fire in Gaza, has earned an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film.

Titled The Voice of Hind Rajab, the film is directed by acclaimed Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania and has quickly become one of the most talked-about international titles this awards season.

A Story That Shook the World

The film tells the true story of Hind Rajab, who was trapped in her family’s car in Gaza City on January 29, 2024, after it came under Israeli army fire. She was fleeing northern Gaza with relatives when the car was hit, according to the Palestine Red Crescent.

Hind was found dead nearly two weeks later, after days of uncertainty that drew global attention.

The Call Heard Around the World

At the heart of the film is the real audio recording of Hind’s final phone call to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, where she begged for help. The recording spread widely online after her death, triggering international outrage and renewed calls for accountability.

Two paramedics who tried to reach her were also killed when their ambulance was struck.

Conflicting Claims and Investigations

The Israeli army has denied responsibility for the deaths. However, a later investigation by London-based group Forensic Architecture concluded that hundreds of bullets hit the car and that an Israeli tank was positioned close to the vehicle.

From Venice to the Oscars

The Voice of Hind Rajab premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2025, where it drew strong reactions and critical praise. Its Oscar nomination now places the film—and Hind’s story—on one of the world’s biggest stages.
