Emirates to Ban All Power Bank Use on Flights from Oct 1

Flying Emirates from October 1? Your power bank can tag along, but you can’t use it — not even sneakily under your sweater. No charging your phone from it, and no charging the power bank itself from the plane’s outlets. It’s coming onboard for the ride, nothing more.

What You Can Still Bring

You’re allowed one power bank under 100Wh. It has to have its capacity clearly marked. It can’t go in checked baggage, and it can’t hide in the overhead bin — it must stay in your seat pocket or bag under the seat in front of you.

Why the Crackdown?

Lithium battery incidents have been rising worldwide. These little portable chargers can overheat, catch fire, or worse if damaged or overcharged — especially cheaper ones without built-in safety systems. Emirates says keeping them out of use and within reach of crew will help stop small problems from turning into airborne emergencies.

The Bottom Line

Bring your power bank if you must, but it’s just going to be a silent travel buddy. Charge your gadgets before you board — your in-flight entertainment will have to be powered the old-fashioned way.
