Garangao is a Ramadan tradition that is widely celebrated by children across Qatar and the Gulf region. Thought to have originated from Qatar's pearl-diving traditions, this time of the Holy Month is pretty special for the little ones.

Garangao celebrations are usually held in different venues in Qatar around the middle of Ramadan, where children wear a traditional brightly coloured costume, and carry a bag which is then filled with candies from neighbours, families and friends. 

Here is a list of the spots hosting Garangao celebrations in Doha this year:

Doha Fire Station

You can join Doha Fire Station's first-ever Garangao celebrations today, April 4th, from 8-11 pm with exciting activities such as painting on tote bags, henna, and sweets distributions. 

Corniche Plaza

Your Guide to Garangao Festivities in Qatar in 2023

Doha's picturesque Corniche Plaza is also hosting a grand Garangao celebration on Wednesday, April 5th, from 8 pm to 12 am. Children can take part in several workshops, including making a colourful 3D Ramadan–inspired paper lantern, and painting clay items.

Lusail Boulevard

Lusail Boulevard will also host the Garangao celebration tomorrow, Wednesday, from 9 pm until midnight. Kids will enjoy activities, entertainment, and Garangao gifts. The event is free to attend.

Al Maha Island

Al Maha Island is offering a free event line-up that includes the Ramadan tradition of Msaharati, lively mascots, storytelling, and lots of goodies on April 5th, from iftar time until 11 pm.

Al Asmakh Mall

Kids can also compete at Al Asmakh Mall on Wednesday and win vouchers worth up to QR 3,000 as part of the Best Dress Competition for Garangao. Pre-register for the competition here.
