Magnitude 5 Earthquake Hits Zambales; Tremors Felt Across Metro Manila

A magnitude 5 earthquake jolted the eastern part of Zambales on Saturday afternoon, October 11, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

According to Phivolcs, the tectonic-origin quake struck at 5:32 p.m., with its epicenter located 19 kilometers east of Cabangan, Zambales, at a depth of 100 kilometers.

Authorities said aftershocks are expected, although no major damage has been reported so far.

Ground Intensities Recorded Across Luzon

State seismologists detailed the following ground intensities:

  • Intensity 3: Cabangan and Iba, Zambales
  • Intensity 2: Calumpit (Bulacan), San Fernando (La Union), Guimba (Nueva Ecija), Bani and Dagupan City (Pangasinan), Santa Ignacia and Tarlac City, Ramos (Tarlac), Botolan and Subic (Zambales), San Marcelino (Zambales)

Residents in Metro Manila also reported feeling minor tremors as the quake rippled through several parts of Luzon.

This latest quake follows a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental, on October 10 at 7:12 p.m., just hours after a powerful magnitude 7.5 tremor shook parts of Mindanao earlier the same day.

The recent sequence of quakes highlights the Philippines’ position along the Pacific Ring of Fire, where frequent seismic activity occurs due to tectonic movements.

Phivolcs continues to monitor the situation and urges the public to stay alert and follow official updates.
