Qatar to Witness a Total Lunar Eclipse on This Date

Qatar is preparing for a rare and breathtaking celestial event on the evening of 7 September. Residents and skywatchers alike will have the opportunity to witness a total lunar eclipse, famously known as a “Blood Moon,” when the full moon is bathed in an eerie crimson glow.

The eclipse is set to begin at approximately 9:11 p.m. (Doha time), marking the onset of totality that will cloak the moon in deep red shades for around 1 hour and 22 minutes.

The entire event will span over 5 hours and 27 minutes, from penumbral through partial to the end of the penumbral phase.

In Qatar, especially in Doha, the lunar eclipse will be fully visible from start to finish, with the greatest eclipse occurring when the moon is about 43° above the southeastern horizon.

This celestial phenomenon occurs when Earth’s shadow completely envelops the moon, a sight that, unlike solar eclipses, is observable from any location experiencing nighttime.

Astronomically, this eclipse is part of the Saros series 128, with totality lasting nearly 82 minutes and exhibiting an umbral magnitude of approximately 1.36, illustrating a deep immersion of the moon into the Earth's dark shadow.

Given its rarity and striking visual appeal, the Blood Moon eclipse is anticipated to draw crowds of enthusiasts and professionals alike across Qatar. Whether you’re a photographer aiming to capture this surreal sky event or simply looking forward to an unforgettable night under the red-lit moon, it’s an occasion you won’t want to miss.
