Google Hangouts: The Second Project That Google Shuts Down

Google is ending its Hangouts chat service, two years after it first announced that it will push people to use chat on its Gmail app.

This is the second time in two years that one of the famous Google applications has been closed, as it announced in August of last year the closing of the Android Auto application.

What Will Happen to Google Hangouts Users?

Google canceled the Hangouts chat app for Android and iOS in July and offered users to be switched to the standalone Google Chat app or the Gmail chat experience.

In addition, the latest version of the messaging service will now also be permanently phased out.

When users access the Hangouts website, they might see a message that says: "From November 1, 2022, Hangouts on the web will redirect to web chat. "We recommend going to Google Chat now."

Google has previously said that those who want to keep a copy of their Hangouts data will have to use the Takeout tool before the service disappears permanently.
