Trial Opening of Old Doha Port This Week

Engineer Mohammed Abdullah Al Mulla, Executive Director of the Old Doha Port, said that the trial opening of the port will be during this week, and the working hours will be from four in the afternoon until ten in the evening, but after the official opening, the working hours will change to be from nine in the morning until two in the morning, and that will be before the start of the World Cup 2022 in a few days.

The project to redevelop the old Doha port and turn it into a tourist berth is one of the most important projects that will provide multiple services to the Qatar 2022 World Cup fans, as well as establish a pioneering infrastructure in the cruise ship sector. The project provides many facilities, services and destinations that will make the experience of the masses and visitors of Qatar more unique.

Whereas the project to transform the old Doha port into a new tourist destination for the State of Qatar and a berth for cruise ships has started since 2017, after transferring cargo operations to Hamad Port.

The port’s development plan also took into account from the beginning the support for Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 World Cup and Qatar National Vision 2030, so that the project would serve the tourism sector for the population’s interest inside Qatar and tourists from all countries of the world.

The project extends over an area of ​​800,000 square meters, approximately the area of ​​Al Bayt Stadium, which extends over an area of ​​one million square meters.

The project includes a passenger terminal, with a capacity to accommodate more than 300,000 tourists annually, according to Qatar Tourism’s expectations.

The port is scheduled to receive visitors through cruise ships, and it will be a destination for fans inside the country during the World Cup.

The Old Port of Doha also includes a multi-use area, which includes 50 cafes and restaurants, and 100 shop, as most of these shops will be interested in marine activities and everything needed to practice water sports and marine activities.

It also includes 150 hotel apartments, and a main hotel with 30 rooms.

In addition to the presence of 30 traditional wooden sailing boats (Sanbuk), which will represent floating hotels during the World Cup, and It is customized to receive visitors and tourists, and represents a Qatari experience through being in a wooden boat.

The port also receives visiting personal ships, during the World Cup, and 50 parking spaces have been allocated to receive mega yachts, which extend from 50 meters to 160 meters in length.

All elements of security and safety are also available in Port facilities, in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of the Interior and the security and safety system of the Civil Defense.

There are also bus stops, which connect the fans to the main stations in Souq Waqif, and which help transport the masses to the main event points in Qatar.
