Flying This Eid? Hamad Airport Shares Key Travel Tips

With a spike in passenger numbers expected for Eid Al Adha, Hamad International Airport (HIA) is encouraging all travelers to plan ahead. To avoid long lines and last-minute stress, passengers are advised to check in online and reach the airport at least three hours before departure.

Use Self-Service for Faster Check-In

Qatar Airways passengers can save time by using the self-service kiosks and baggage drop counters located at check-in row 3.
E-Gates are also available for eligible citizens and residents, though height restrictions (minimum 130 cm) apply.

Stick to Airline Baggage Rules

HIA is reminding travelers to follow strict baggage policies set by their airlines. Avoid oddly shaped or oversized bags and ensure all luggage is securely packed in a square or rectangular shape.
For safe wrapping, use only the airport’s EU-standard baggage wrapping service—home wrapping is discouraged.
A baggage repack area and weighing machines are available in the departure hall for last-minute adjustments.

Parking and Drop-Offs

Passengers can use the short-term parking area for quick drop-offs and pick-ups. Long-term parking is available at discounted rates, but only if booked in advance online.
For a hassle-free option, valet parking is offered at both arrivals and departures. Car rental and limo services are also just steps from the arrival hall.

Prepare for Security Screening

To get through security smoothly:

  • Carry liquids in containers under 100ml, placed inside a clear resealable bag.

  • Remove all electronics larger than a mobile phone at the screening.

  • Hoverboards and similar lithium battery-powered items are not allowed in any luggage.

Stay Updated With the HIA App

Travelers can download the HIAQatar app for live flight updates, baggage tracking, and gate directions. QR codes across the terminal can also guide you easily through the airport.

Extra Help for Families

Families traveling with children will find dedicated screening lanes during the holiday rush. These are marked with orange signage, and airport staff wearing orange armbands are ready to assist.
