Many football fans wonder about the reason behind the new name of the 974 Stadium, and here we will explain why.

When was 974 Stadium constructed?

The construction of Stadium 974 commenced in 2015 and was specially constructed to host the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar next winter.

974 Stadium was inaugurated on November 20, 2021, only one year before the start of the World Cup, and it is the seventh stadium to be opened to host the most important event in the world of football.

974 Stadium location:

Stadium 974 is located in Ras Abu Aboud area in the Qatari capital Doha, and has a unique location that distinguishes it from the rest of the 2022 World Cup stadiums.

Stadium 974 was built on the shore of the Arabian Gulf, located near Doha Port, and provides its guests with a distinctive view of the sea directly, and can also be reached using the metro.

Capacity and design of the stadium 974:

Stadium 974 has a capacity of about 40,000 fans and was built using shipping containers and detachable seats.

Not only the seats can be dismantled and installed, but the entire stadium has this feature, and according to what the organizing committee announced, it will be dismantled right after the 2022 World Cup, and its parts will be used for other projects, in addition to the establishment of a project on its beach site.

This great stadium was built in record time and at a low cost of construction, thanks to its unique design by Fenwick Irish Architects. The stadium has an elegantly arched square design, ensuring that fans and players alike can enjoy an exciting atmosphere as it will host important matches in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

The reason behind the name “974 Stadium”:

The previous name of the stadium is Ras Abu Aboud, due to the area in which it is located in the Qatari capital Doha.

As for the name of Stadium 974, it reflects messages from the design, and there are two reasons behind the new name. Firstly, 974 represents the number of shipping containers used in its construction; and secondly, it is the international calling code of Qatar.
