Who’s Exempt from Public School Fees in Qatar This Year?

Public school students who aren’t exempt will pay QR 150 per semester for textbooks and QR 220 per semester for transport (if they’re using the bus). Payments have to be made online via the Maarif portal—no cash, no excuses.

Who Gets a Free Pass

Not everyone has to shell out for these fees. Exempt groups include:

  • Qatari students

  • Children of Qatari women married to non-Qataris

  • Children of GCC citizens

  • Students with disabilities

  • Children of imams and muezzins under the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs

The Ministry says these exemptions cover both new and returning students.

How Books Are Handled

Non-Qatari students must pay and show their receipt before collecting books. Lose one? No worries—you can get a replacement once you pay the fee. Schools also need to return surplus textbooks to public stores by October 9, 2025 for the first semester and February 5, 2026 for the second.

Transport Reminders

Schools must keep an accurate list of students using transportation in the National Student Information System. Refunds for books or bus fees, if ever needed, have to go through the Ministry’s Financial Affairs Department with full paperwork.
