This Qatari Beach Volleyball Duo Win Gstaad Elite 16 Crown

The elite duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan have clinched yet another major title, defeating Sweden’s Jacob Holting Nilsson and David Åhman in straight sets (21–19, 22–20) in the Gstaad Elite16 final in Switzerland.

The win marks a huge milestone in the 2025 season and further cements the pair’s reputation as one of the world’s top teams.

The Elite16 tournament, part of the FIVB Beach Pro Tour’s five-star circuit, is known for drawing the best of the best—and the Qatari team showed they were more than up for the challenge.

Qatar’s golden duo are stacking trophies

The Gstaad victory is just the latest chapter in a golden year for Younousse and Tijan. Earlier in 2025, the pair picked up wins at:

  • Xiamen Elite16 in China

  • Pingtan Asian Open

  • GCC Beach Games in Muscat

  • 24th Asian Beach Volleyball Championship in Songkhla, Thailand

  • Asian Beach Tour – Doha, where they beat Australia in straight sets

The consistent wins point to Qatar’s rising dominance in beach volleyball—especially with Cherif and Tijan leading the charge.

Their career highlights already include an Olympic bronze at Tokyo 2020 and a strong fourth-place finish at Paris 2024.

Qatar’s national program continues to ride this wave of success, with local competitions growing stronger and the team proving time and again that they belong on the global stage.

From Olympic podiums to the Swiss Alps, Qatar’s kings of the sand are showing the world how it’s done.
