Qatar Warns Against Unlicensed Taxi Use in Private Vehicles

The Ministry of Interior in Qatar has issued a renewed warning against the use of private vehicles as unlicensed taxis, stressing that such practices violate the country’s Traffic Law and may result in legal penalties.

In a statement shared by traffic authorities, the ministry clarified that using private cars for purposes not specified in their official registration permits—including transporting passengers for hire—is strictly prohibited. The warning is based on Article (5/57) of Qatar’s Traffic Law, which states that it is unlawful to use, or allow the use of, any motor vehicle for purposes other than those listed in its registration documents.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that vehicle owners found in violation may face penalties in accordance with the law, without exception. Authorities reiterated that registration conditions must be followed at all times, particularly as Qatar continues to regulate its transport sector.

Officials noted that these regulations are designed to maintain road safety, ensure fair competition within the transport industry, and protect passengers by limiting commercial transport services to licensed operators only.

Vehicle owners across Qatar have been urged to strictly comply with traffic laws and registration rules to avoid legal liability and support a safer, more organized road network.
