Qatar Records QR99.1bn in June Payment Transactions

Qatar’s payment system kept growing fast in June 2026. Total transactions across the country reached 75.135 million, with a total value of QR99.101 billion. This is a 21% increase in transaction volume and a 40% rise in value compared to the same month last year. The numbers show stronger use of digital payments and more activity in the economy.

Card Payments Still Lead by Volume

Card payment systems remained the most used method by number of transactions, making up 89.2% of all payments. However, this was slightly lower than 94.5% in June 2025. Transfer payment systems grew their share to 10.8% of total transaction volume, showing more use of bank transfers and digital payment services.

Transfer Payments Drive Most of the Value

When looking at transaction value, transfer payment systems were the main growth driver. They accounted for 76.8% of the total value, up from 64.6% in June 2025. Card payments made up 23.2% of the total value. This means cards are still important for daily spending, while larger payments are moving more to transfer systems.

Card Payment Activity Continues to Grow

Card payment activity also showed strong growth, with 66.996 million transactions worth QR23.005 billion during the month. Point-of-sale (POS) transactions were the largest part, increasing to 48.743 million from 43.284 million a year earlier. E-commerce transactions also rose sharply, from 9.639 million to 13.235 million, showing more online shopping and digital commerce. ATM transactions went down slightly from 5.714 million to 5.019 million.

Even with higher transaction volumes, the overall value of card payments fell by 8%. This was mainly because of lower ATM-related transaction values, while POS and online payment values continued to increase.

Qatar Mobile Payment Usage Rises Fast

The data also showed faster use of instant payments through Qatar Mobile Payment (QMP). Instant transfer transactions reached QR387.533 million in value in June, up 74% compared to the same month last year. Transaction volume increased by 183%, from 278,781 to 798,615 transactions. The total number of registered digital wallets also grew to 1.45 million, showing stronger use of real-time wallet-based payment solutions across Qatar.
