Qatar is Set to Bid for Manchester United Within Days

A group of Qatari investors are set to make a bid for the Premier League Club Manchester United within days ahead of the mid-February deadline set by the club's US owners the Glazers, according to a report on February 7th in the Daily Mail.

In November 2022, the Glazer family shared that they were looking at options for either a new investment or a potential sale. In January this year, Bloomberg News reported that Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), which owns Paris St Germain are considering taking over Manchester United or its rival Liverpool.

However, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) rules dictate that clubs having the same owners cannot compete in their championships, therefore PSG and Manchester United would not be able to compete if QSI is to own both clubs.

The Al Thani family had made a bid for Manchester United of £1 billion in 2011, however, the Glazers rejected it.

The Daily Mail report speculated that the bid would come from different, individual Qatari investors. These investors will be up against company INEOS' owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who is the richest man in Britain.

Manchester United owners are seeking over £6 billion for the club, and they hope the bid will include a proposal to renovate Old Trafford, which will cost another £2 billion.
