Qatar Denies US Claim of Warning Before Israel’s Doha Strike

Qatar pushed back on the White House’s statement that it was warned ahead of Israel’s deadly air strike in Doha. The Gulf nation said the US only reached out during the attack, not before.

“The call that was received from an American official came during the sound of the explosions,” Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said.

White House Statement

Earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said President Trump had directed his envoy to warn Qatar in advance. She admitted, however, that the strike “does not advance Israel or America’s goals,” though she called eliminating Hamas “a worthy goal.”

Trump later expressed regret over the strike location, stressing it was “Prime Minister Netanyahu’s decision” and not his.

Fallout in Doha

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani condemned the strike as “reckless” and “a violation of sovereignty,” warning it threatened regional stability. Qatar also vowed to take steps to protect its security but confirmed it will continue mediating ceasefire talks.

Hamas said five of its members were killed, including the son of a senior official, while its negotiating team survived. The group blamed both Israel and the US, calling them “jointly responsible” for the attack.

Regional Shockwaves

Analysts say the strike will hurt US credibility in the Middle East, with Qatar’s role as a mediator—and even its “major non-NATO ally” status—now in question. The attack happened just kilometers from Al Udeid Airbase, the US’s biggest military installation in the region.

Diplomatic experts warn this could strain ties not only with Qatar but also with neighbors like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, both key players in Israel’s normalization efforts.
