Qatar Emir Calls Israel an Enemy, Accuses It of Genocide

Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, used his UN General Assembly speech on Tuesday to hit out at Israel, calling it “an enemy to its neighbors” and accusing it of committing genocide in Gaza.

Attack in Doha Sparks Outrage

The comments came after an Israeli strike earlier this month killed six people in Doha, including a Qatari national. The emir said the attack was aimed at disrupting ceasefire talks with Hamas, calling it “political assassination” disguised as self-defense.

“Not Surrounded by Enemies”

Sheikh Tamim argued that Israel isn’t a democracy under threat but a power imposing its will on Arab neighbors, labeling critics as either antisemitic or terrorists. He noted that most nearby states have signed peace deals or support the Arab Peace Initiative.

Mediation Will Continue

Despite the attack, the emir vowed Qatar will keep working with Egypt and the US to push for a Gaza ceasefire, humanitarian access, and prisoner swaps. “We’ll continue to speak the truth, even when others choose weapons,” he said.
