New Dress Code! Cannes Film Festivals Bans Voluminous Dress
Just before Cannes 2025 began, new dress code rules banned nudity and large gowns—leaving stars scrambling to adjust their red carpet looks.

A day before the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival 2025 on Tuesday, May 13, the organizers changed the regulations for the dress code.
Nudity is banned from the red carpet for "reasons of decency". Voluminous dresses are banned from the red carpet because "those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater.”
A member of this year's competition jury, Halle Berry, had to ditch her dress from Indian designer Gaurav Gupta, so she had she change her outfit last minute.

The new regulations have been included in the FAQ on the festival's website. The regulation states, "The Festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules."
The regulation comes after American supermodel Bella Hadid made headlines at last year's festival for her revealing chiffon dress.
