X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, hit a global outage on Friday, knocking out access for users around the world and triggering a flood of complaints online.
According to outage-tracking site Downdetector, reports spiked sharply around 3pm BST (10am ET), suggesting a sudden and widespread disruption.
Users Met With Blank Feeds
Instead of their usual timelines, many users said they were greeted by blank screens on both the website and mobile apps. The issue appeared more serious than past glitches, where posts failed to refresh but the app still opened.
This time, users said nothing loaded at all.
Reports Surge Across Key Regions
At the peak of the outage, more than 62,000 users in the United States reported problems. In the UK, around 11,000 incidents were logged, while India saw over 3,000 reports.
Downdetector noted that these numbers are based on user submissions and may not reflect the full scale of the disruption.
No Immediate Word From X
The outage appeared to hit all access points at once, affecting desktop browsers and mobile apps across multiple regions. As of the disruption, X had not released an official statement explaining what went wrong or when full service would return.
